Alice Mongoose and Alistair Rat in Hawaii: The Classic Children's Picture Book by Mary Pfaff, "The Beatrix Potter of Hawaii." - Mary Pfaff

I received this book from the author/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

3.5 stars. I did like the premise of the book, and the idea. But it felt a bit short. Like this is just part 1 of a bigger book, instead of a separate book in a series. We were just getting to the part where Alice arrives at Hawaii, finds a home, and a friend and then, done. Just like that.

The book has promise though, I can see this become a long series with stories of Alice, her job (if she still has that one in the later books), and her unlikely friendship with a certain animal.

I do wonder, why didn't Alice ask what the job was about? Why did she (and her parents for that matter) just let her board a ship? Which also brings to me, there are humans? (Since that pair of boots and how big they were in correlation with Alice seemed to hint at that.)

The art is pretty great, I liked it. I liked how the characters were drawn, how the backgrounds were done. It is quite colourful, and I am sure kids will like it.

Would I recommend this book? Yes. I would. I do hope there will be more books that continue this story, let us know more about Alice and her world.
