I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I wasn’t sure what to expect, sure, the blurb said something about a squirrel and a dog travelling across the globe to visit wildlife. But I didn’t know what kind of story it would be. Comic? Graphic Novel? Picture book style? Something else? A mix of stuff?
So I was delighted when I started reading and it turned out to be comics with gorgeous illustrations of the various wildlife of the place these 2 visit. Yes, gorgeous, you can’t just avert your eyes, these illustrations are really beautiful, and make the animals come to life.
The animals also pop up in comic form, I especially liked the little tiger, he was just so adorable, and both the characters were just running away from him.
The comics switch between serious (and thus learning readers something) to comedy. Which is a delight, this way the subject doesn’t become too heavy, and kids can learn something in a fun way.
I also loved the friendship between these 2 characters, it is not often you would see a squirrel and a dog being friends. Generally a dog would chase squirrels.
The idea of a cardboard plane? Loved it! It is something that kids do (I know I did). Of course sadly mine never flew like that, but in my imagination it sure did.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. Lovely comics with beautiful illustrations. Comedy with seriousness.
